Melanotan 1 in Laboratory Research
Melanotan 1 (afamelanotide) is a synthetic, linear analog of alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone modified to resist enzymatic breakdown. Compared with its cyclic counterpart it is markedly more selective for the MC1R receptor subtype.
That selectivity makes it a standard comparator in melanocortin-receptor pharmacology under controlled laboratory conditions.
Research Applications & Study Focus
It is used as a reference ligand in melanocortin-receptor pharmacology, melanogenesis assays, and photoprotection research using cell-based systems, where MC1R-mediated effects are the endpoint of interest.
Consistent lot specification supports reproducible receptor-selectivity and melanogenesis conditions across repeated experiments.
Purity, Handling & Verification
Each batch is supplied as a sealed, lyophilized vial and is independently analysed by a third-party laboratory using HPLC and mass spectrometry; the full certificate of analysis is published against its lot number, so results can be verified before use. Store the lyophilized material cool, dry and out of direct light, and reconstitute with bacteriostatic water under standard aseptic laboratory practice.
This material is offered strictly for in vitro laboratory research use only. It is not for human or veterinary consumption, and not for diagnostic or therapeutic use.
